The headline was used yesterday in an article in Defense One, a property of Atlantic Media, whose mission is to inform, elevate and challenge the national discourse’. It is produced by the Government Executive Media Group which takes its name from its Government Executive publication; this, despite its name, is described as an American trade magazine, distributed free to the ‘elite corps’ of senior executives in federal, state and local governments.
Atlantic Media hopes to ‘equip opinion leaders with breakthrough ideas and original insights’
Despite the headline, which tends to shock, make an impact and stay in the memory, Joshua Foust, a former senior intelligence analyst for the Pentagon, admits that the lethal autonomous robot, or LAR, does not yet exist, and is not possible with current technology.
To read lengthy political and academic speculation about the subject and the unease about hacking of drones, which would be more difficult in a LAR, click here.
Was this headline used in a vain attempt to mollify the growing tide of world opinion which denounces drone strikes?
By offering an even more brutal and inhuman option the current regime would seem relatively acceptable:
“Always keep a hold of nurse for fear of finding something worse.”
